A 20-year vision transforming Greater Macarthur

Project Vision

Connected, walkable communities

Nestled amongst one of Australia’s most picturesque and culturally rich landscapes, the Appin communities will eventually be home to 40,000 people across 13,000 residences.

Spanning multiple neighbourhoods set between Campbelltown, the Southern Highlands and the beautiful beaches of Wollongong, Appin is an opportunity for future generations to enjoy a vibrant community connected to scenic bushland, heritage townships and a relaxed coastal lifestyle.

In a masterplan prioritising connectivity and conservation, the interconnected neighbourhoods will be serviced by new major infrastructure, schools, healthcare, transport and community services while creating thousands of local jobs.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure and convenience

Major infrastructure will be delivered in stages to service the needs of Appin’s growing neighbourhoods. Critical road and public transport upgrades will improve connections from Appin to Campbelltown-Macarthur, Western Sydney Aerotropolis, Wilton, Wollongong and the Southern Highlands while preserving the character of Wollondilly Shire’s heritage townships and creating safe new passages for wildlife crossings.

Water and recycled water services

Water and recycled water services will be delivered alongside land and homes. As the Appin communities expand, Walker will work with Sydney Water to ensure water and recycled water services are able to meet the growing demands of each neighbourhood.

Conservation

Respecting the environment

Appin's unique landscapes will be celebrated and integrated into each neighbourhood with one-third of the project site dedicated to protection and conservation. Over 500 hectares of preserved land will create new corridors for the southwest Sydney koala population.

Conservation

A masterplan connecting to Country

Located on the lands of the Dharawal People, Appin is a place of significant cultural heritage. Working with First Nations representatives will ensure our Appin communities reflect the significance of Aboriginal connection to Country while working together to preserve treasured National Parks and watering holes along the Nepean and Cataract Rivers.

Conservation

Key environmental commitments

  • Land protection and regeneration

Appin dedicates 500 hectares (one-third of the site) to the protection and rehabilitation of conservation corridors for wildlife and their surrounding habitat.

  • Scientifically backed

Walker will deliver the first conservation dedication plan under the CPCP (Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan) endorsed by the NSW Chief Scientist.

  • Wilton Greenfield Housing Code

Walker is the first private developer to commit to the Wilton Greenfield Housing Code which will deliver greener, cooler streets with a 40% tree canopy.

  • Improving bushfire resilience

Bushfire mitigation strategies will be embedded in the community design and landscape with safe zones and improved evacuation options servicing the region.

Lifestyle

Space for families to grow

The Appin communities will deliver a major boost to NSW's housing supply, providing nearly 13,000 homes and contributing to diverse, affordable living options for thousands of families.

Lifestyle

Live and work locally

Walker’s vision will see more opportunities for residents to live and work locally. A variety of professional and skilled jobs will create thousands of employment options on Appin’s doorstep, so residents won’t need to commute to Sydney CBD for work.
